McConn
Coffee Co.
BRAND DESIGN + ASSETS | 2017
FOUNDRY & CO.
Old always meets new. Sometimes the richest experiences utilize the texture and fixtures of the past. Today, the original stained glass and lanterns from the original McConn chapel adorn the coffeeshop, creating a warm space steeped in history.

Coffee for a community
On the Indiana Wesleyan University campus sits a bustling coffee shop, serving thousands everyday. We were approached to rebrand this shop for the modern college student while paying respects to a college steeped in Biblical history and imagery.
The solution came in the shape of the quatrefoil. Layered within Christian history, the shape is echoed throughout the school’s architecture, fixtures, and chapels, and here we layered new meaning into a very recognizable form.
When we were initially approached in 2016 to rebrand the beloved McConn brand, they communicated how ready they were to move away from the “wet” looking logo that everyone knew so well. This really marked a willingness from the client to really freshen up the brand for the years to come.
Our intention to create a brand steeped in history was even made more successful in the flexibility and buildable nature of the resulting logo. As a college campus coffee shop, the brand needed varied lockups and styles to maintain years of new merchandise and applications. To this day, it’s exciting to see how they continue to strengthen and grow the new McConn brand.
The Future Based in the Past
TAKEAWAYS:
When approaching a beloved brand and space, embedding history and familiar imagery/color becomes incredibly important. Every client and consumer wants their opinion and perspective to matter, so why not use those perspectives to rebrand what they love?
